ANTI ACADEMY CAMPAIGNER SUSPENDED BY HARINGEY COUNCIL
A London council has suspended an elected NUT official. Julie Davies, Haringey NUT branch secretary and a vocal supporter of the Save Downhills anti academy campaign, was suspended just before the end of the summer term. This week the NUT will challenge the Council at the High Court.

Michael Gove has been removed from his post of Secretary of State for Education in the cabinet reshuffle. Free school founder Katharine Birbalsingh lamented on Twitter saying that Gove was the goose that had laid the golden eggs.

On the morning of Tuesday 15th July, ‘Hove Park not Gove Park’ badges became collectors’ items when Michael Gove lost the confidence of Dave Cameron and was demoted from Secretary of State for Education. On Tuesday afternoon, Brighton & Hove City Council announced the result of a ballot of Hove Park School parents. More than 1,500 parents had the vote and on a turnout higher than for local elections fewer than 160 voted to convert the school to an academy with more than 70% of those voting being clearly against conversion.

I know of two other schools which have been so far unable to fill vacant positions in my subject, all in greater Manchester. maybe people will take notice when there are not enough teachers left who want to do the job any more.”

In 2010, Michael Gove promised an educational “revolution” as he rolled out plans to allow all schools to convert to academy status. This would, apparently, increase educational achievement – and in particular enhance the life chances of the most vulnerable.

When Sally Morgan, Labour peer, was ousted as the Chair of Ofsted, she claimed it was a party political move by the current Secretary of State. His current favoured candidate appears to be the multi-millionaire Tory Donor David Ross, Chairman of Carphone Warehouse who leads the David Ross Education Trust. How could he manage the conflict of interest given that his trust runs a chain of 25 academies?
